Masonic Swords
From About Freemasons
Masonic swords are often used symbols in Freemasonry, but are also used in Masonic rituals and ceremonies. Some Masons also collect these swords, which are often embossed with symbols that represent justice, honor, might, integrity and truth – the tenets that Masons aspire to be.

Choosing Masonic swords
If you want to buy Masonic swords, there are many questions you will want to ask yourself:
What metal do I want?
Masonic swords are often made from silver, gold, brass, or bronze, although it is possible to find swords that use different metals for the hilt, the blade, the pommel and other parts of the sword. Keep in mind that different metals will require different care and will make your sword more or less expensive. Select not only for the appearance of the metal, but also for your budget and for the amount of time you will have to care for your sword.
What symbols do I want?
You can have one symbol or several. You may choose to have symbols of your lodge and your degrees or you can choose to have your Masonic sword designed with Masonic symbols that have special meaning to you.
Do I want inlays or gems?
Some swords are created with colored inlays. These add to the visual beauty of the sword. Some swords come with jewels or gems – either precious or semi-precious. Both gems and inlays will add to visual appeal and the cost of your sword.
Do I want a sword or dagger?
Although Masonic swords are more popular, Masonic swords of 12 to 14 inches long are also available. Like swords, Masonic daggers are decorated with symbols and different metals. They can also include inlays and gems.
Historic Masonic Swords
Today, many Masons and collectors prize historic Masonic swords. These are Masonic swords which have historical as well as symbolic significance. In some cases, these swords are passed down from generation to generation. In other cases, these swords are sold by antique dealers and collectors. If you wish to collect historic swords, keep in mind that you will be paying for historical value as well as the sword’s value. Swords that were used in Lodges that no longer meet and that belonged to famous Masons are especially expensive.
